A PRESENTATION OF THE KÄVLINGE RIVER PROJECT AND HÖJE RIVER PROJECTImprovment of waterquality and biodiversity in agricultural areas of southern SwedenThe projects have had a finacial support from the European Commission through LIFE, 1996-1999
Aim of the projectsKävlinge river- and Höje river- projects ponds, wetlands and buffertzones are constructed in the agricultural landscape of Scania in the southern part of Sweden. The constructed measures aims to reduce nutrient transport to creacs, rivers and lakes within the watersheds and thereby decrease the transport of nutrient to the adjoining coastal sea (Öresund). The accomplished measures also aims to improve the biological diversity in the agricultural landscape and increase the recreation areas. So far a total of 100 hectares of ponds and wetlands have been constructed and 36 hectares or 59 km of buffertstrips have been established within the watersheds. The projects also shows how many local authorities can cooperate to establish these measures.
Two catcmentareas. Cooperation with support from the European Commission. The Kävlinge river project and Höje river project are closely cooperating. The chairman, projectcoordinator and the consultant are the same for both projects. The projects are also joined together by financial support by the European commission through the LIFE-fond in the project "WETLANDS IN AGRICULTURAL AREAS". The Life-financed parts are now finished. |
